Those times when the industrial planning was prior to the evaluation of the natural resources where the activity was going to take place have passed. Today, ecologists and environmentalists set the environmental production guidelines for the technical teams of the companies, both in geography and exploitation technology, as long as it is technically feasible.
There has been a rapprochement between the environmental and the strictly technical criterions, ones more sensitive to the limitations of the others and vice versa, with a sense of teamwork necessary for the execution of environmentally and socially responsible projects.
In this context, Petaquilla Minerals led by the renowned Engineer Richard Fifer-Carles, has commissioned a territorial diagnosis to a prestigious and experienced Andalusian company in the environment of the Iberian Pyrite Belt with the purpose of identifying those areas that deserve special attention for their conservation and management in the frame of developing a new industrial base in the region, where part of the generated resources from the diverse economical activities are used to increase the natural regional assets.
The diagnosis itself is not the goal but a means; the Spanish law requires an environmental authorization previous to the granting of a license for an industrial activity, following the standards of the European Union. However, the objective is not strictly to comply with the law, but to take a step forward and increase the minimum limits established by law in what is defined as a proactive attitude towards preserving the natural resources.
Such proactive attitude reflects the long term will of Petaquilla Minerals and Eng. Fifer-Carles at the Iberian Pyrite Belt, because they are conscious of the effects the activities they perform may have in the region and they want their accounts results to be double, on one hand the economical for their investors and on the other, the natural actives and passives with the locals and the regional biodiversity.
